is a 200-level thematic literature and writing course. In this class, students will have the opportunity to refine their critical reading and writing skills by investigating in-depth a single important theme, topic or genre (e.g., environmental literature, the literature of illness, detective fiction, travel literature, the documentary film tradition, creative non-fiction). Students will engage with a wide range of texts, including those from print, film, and other media. The course may also include selections drawn from various national literatures in translation and a range of historical periods. Special Topics in Literature and Composition may be repeated for credit but only on different topics. This is a repeatable course and may be taken more than once for credit.
